Your Beauceron and Hot Weather

Temperatures in the 90s and 100s, can be harsh for your furry companion. Beaucerons are as vulnerable to summertime heat as humans are. Dehydration, overheating, and sunburn are just a few of the health concerns of hot weather and canines. Nevertheless, there are several easy, precautions pet owners can take to ensure a healthy and happy beauceron:

Chihuahuas, because of their size, are often treated like babies, but they actually do have something in common with human babies. Chihuahuas are born with a "molera", also known as a soft spot, on their heads, exactly like a human baby. Usually the soft spot closes as the dog matures.

- Whenever you travel with your beauceron, always tote a bottle of cold, fresh water.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

- As hyperthermia can be fatal, it is never recommended to leave your beauceron in the car. Even if the windows are ajar, a parked vehicle can heat up rapidly. For errands less than 15 minutes, park the automobile in the shade for some extra protection.

The oldest pure-bred British dog is said to be the Corgi. Their proof of existence has been traced back to dogs brought to Wales by the Celts from the Black Sea around 1200 BC.

- Regular grooming may stave off summer discomfort as well as skin problems. Particularly, canines with heavy coats should have their hair shaved at least one-inch in length and never right down to the skin. To protect your beauceron from the ultra-violet rays of the sun, never have your beauceron's hair cut down.

The greyhound is the fastest breed of dog. It is capable of running at speeds of around 45 miles per hour. Greyhounds are excellent for hunting and racing, but they are notorious for laziness, often preferring to cuddle on a couch, rather than run. This makes them an ideal house pet.

- Keep walks to a minimum when the temperature is above 85. The hot asphalt from sidewalks and pavement can heat up rapidly and burn a beauceron's sensitive paw pads.

Australian Kelpies are herding dogs with an abundance of energy. They can work in extreme climates and conditions. They are known for one unique ability. They can run along the backs of sheep when moving them through chutes.

- After a light snack or heavy meal, avoid feeding your beauceron. During the summer hours, make playtime in the cool morning or later in the evening so that your canine will not get sick.
