Should I Get My Beauceron From a Beauceron Rescue?
There is a common misconception that all rescue beaucerons are damaged goods. That is, that they all have been abused in one form or another and are thus unpredictable and unstable. While that is true of some beaucerons, it is far from true for all of them.

The role of Toto, the male dog in the Wizard of Oz was actually played by a female Cairn Terrier named Terry. Cairn terriers are known for their brightness and cuteness. That, combined with their small size, made the breed perfect for the role.
Unfortunately, its often impossible to trace the complete history of a lot of rescue beaucerons. Therefore, you may not know what the beaucerons original name was, whether or not it was actually abused, or what commands, if any, it has been trained to recognize. For instance, a beauceron may have been taught that down means to stop jumping on people, while beauceron B may have been taught a different word for that action, such as off. This means that it will take both you and the beauceron time to adjust to each others attitudes, routines and expectations.

In the latter part of the 18th century, Holland was split between the partisans of the Prince of Orange and the patriots, and the patriots were led by Kees de Gyselaer, who owned a dog named Kees. Kees gave the Keeshond breed its name and became the symbol of the Patriots.
If you cant determine the history of a beauceron then it may be a bad choice for you if you already own other pets or if you have small children. A beauceron that may have been abused could potentially lash out toward children or other pets, out of fear or aggression. You, as an adult, are more capable of defending against such circumstances.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest lived dog was an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey. The dog lived to be 29. This case was considered unusual since smaller dogs generally live longer. The chihuahua is actually the breed that tends to live the longest.
However, if you know the beaucerons history, they can make excellent family pets. For instance, perhaps a beaucerons owner treated them wonderfully, but died unexpectedly. In such cases, there are usually no issues of abuse or viciousness. These beaucerons would love and enjoy a new, lively family after their rescue center stay.

Bloodhounds have dewlaps. What are dewlaps? They are strange looking, pendulous folds of skin on the back of the neck. They don't seem to serve any useful purpose to the bloodhound, but are rather interesting to look at.
Above all, consider the individual beauceron. Introduce your family, and even other pets, to it before making a final decision. If the beauceron takes to you and you take to it then you probably have a great match.
The American Kennel Club recognizes more than 150 breeds? Segmented into seven different breed types, all breed possess unique temperaments, physical characteristics as well as a rich background in history.
