Is It Ok To Keep My Beauceron Outside?

This is an ongoing debate that may never be over. Some people feel that beaucerons are supposed to guard the home, not be part of it. Others feel that beaucerons should be kept indoors mostly and treated as loyal and trusted family members.

The name bernese mountain dog is a rough translation of the German "berner sennenhund", which literally means "bernese alpine herdsman's dog". The breed's original name was "durrbachler", after an inn where these farm dogs were bought and sold.

Dogs have a need to be part of a pack. They enjoy being a member of the family unit. While some breeds of DOG can physically survive being left outside, it can take a mental toll on them. They require more social stimulation than most owners, even with the best of intentions, are capable of giving.

While adult dalmations are covered in cute black spots, dalmation puppies are actually born solid white. Their spots don't show up until they are at least a week old. Sometimes not until they are a month old.

Many outdoor beaucerons become overwhelmed and stressed by their situation. This can cause barking, scratching, fear or aggression toward anyone or anything that comes their way. Unfortunately, some owners think that that is a good thing because they feel that it makes the beauceron more protective of the property. Keep in mind that a security system can protect your property more than a tied up beauceron can, and you dont have to feed the security system.

The oldest pure-bred British dog is said to be the Corgi. Their proof of existence has been traced back to dogs brought to Wales by the Celts from the Black Sea around 1200 BC.

Consider for a moment how bored you would be if you were tied to a rope and left alone for even an hour or two. Well, an outdoor beauceron endures that every single day.

The official name of the dogs we call pitbulls is the American staffordshire terrier. Pitbulls have been the preferred pet of many famous people including Fred Astaire, Vin Diesel, Alicia Silverstone, Michael J. Fox, and James Caan.

Other things to consider are the type of beauceron and the weather in your area. In a hot climate a beauceron can easily suffer from dehydration and heat exhaustion. In a cold environment they have the potential to freeze to death. Larger DOGS tend to do better outside than smaller DOGS, but even larger DOGS need socialization.

The doberman pinscher breed was created in the 1860's by a man named Louis Doberman. Mr. Doberman was a German tax-collector. He needed a dog to protect him from angry people while he worked. To this day, dobermans are excellent guard dogs.

So, if you are determined to keep a beauceron outside, be sure to spend plenty of time playing with it, give it a good shelter from whatever your weather conditions may be, keep its area clean, keep a constant supply of food and water and allow it some room to run, whether on a leash or in a fenced in yard.

The Japanese Chin, also known as the Japanese Spaniel, is considered to be one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds when it comes to attitude. It is alert, intelligent, and often independent. Also, like a cat, it uses its paws to wash its face.

The bottom line is that you can keep some types of DOGS outside under some conditions, but if you arent planning to spend time with your beauceron then you probably shouldnt own one.

The Broholmer is a breed that is recognized only in Denmark. It was thought extinct in the 1960's but, in December of 1974, a purebred Broholmer popped up in Finland. This dog was a male, and the owners hoped to find a female for him to mate with, but it never happened. While still recognized as a breed, an example has yet to appear again.
