Healthy Basics of Beauceron Care
- Unless specifically labeled safe for use, never apply insect repellent products or sunscreen onto your canine. The ingestion of insecticides, sunscreen products and other pest controls may result in excessive thirstiness; diarrhea, drooling, and lethargy are symptomatic of chemical ingestion.
Avoid the overusing insect repellents that contain the chemical DEET because it can lead to neurological disorders.

Many Scottish terriers have an odd medical condition. It is called Scotties Cramp. It is a mild neurological disorder. Scotties under stress or exercising may move erratically, when suffering from this neurological disorder, but seem fine when resting.
- When entertaining outdoors, be aware of keeping matches, charcoal, citronella candles, lighter fluid, and other potentially poisonous items out of your beaucerons' reach.

Male Irish wolfhounds are usually at least 32 to 34 inches tall and females are usually around 30 inches tall. This makes the Irish wolfhound the tallest breed. Although a few other dogs, such as the great dane, come close to equalling that height.
- Close up any open unscreened windows, doors and other spaces to safeguard your beauceron from fallings or having an accident.

The phal�ne is essentially the same thing as a papillon, except that it has dropped spaniel-like ears. within the first couple of months after birth the ears will either lay flat or raise up permanently. The AKC considers the Phal�ne and the Papillon to be the same breed.
- Outdoor caution is advised in older, overweight or beaucerons sensitive to heat.. Snub-nosed DOGS (brachycephalic) such as: pugs, bulldogs, shih tzus Boston terriers, Lhasa apsos are prone to heat induced complications. Canines diagnosed with heart and lung diseases should be housed in a the comfort of an air-conditioned room (as much as possible).

The Japanese Chin, also known as the Japanese Spaniel, is considered to be one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds when it comes to attitude. It is alert, intelligent, and often independent. Also, like a cat, it uses its paws to wash its face.
- For a day at the beach, find a shaded spot where your beauceron has access to an ample supply of fresh water.

- During walks through the park or other grassland try to avoid areas that may have been sprayed with pesticides, insecticides and any other harsh chemicals.

Part of the reason that basset hounds have such a unique look is that the British purposely bred basset hounds to have short legs, so that hunters could keep up with them. Unfortunate this has caused the breed to be prone to leg/joint problems.
- Late spring and early summer are the best times to schedule your beauceron's visit to the veterinarian. Canines should be tested for heartworms specifically for beaucerons who are not taking a year-round preventive medication.

St. bernards have a well-deserved reputation as rescue dogs. In fact, the most successful mountain rescue dog ever was a st. bernard. His name was Barry. He lived during the early 1800's, during which time he saved 40 lives.
